      The simplest solution to your problem would be to not join 
#SaladTongs.  That's how the regulars behave in there when someone new 
joins their channel.  Since it is their channel, and the network is 
based on freedom of speech, they are free to send whatever text they 
would like to send to their channel.  You, however, are not required to 
read it or participate in it.  I'm sure that there are a number of other 
channels that would be more to your liking.  Look for them with the 
/list command.
