That's a good step in the right direction. Have you installed and
ran it, yet?

Which explanation? The one on our main web site?

      Type in what "link"?

      Here's the short of it:

1. Run mIRC.

2. Typically, when you first run it, the "mIRC Options" dialog box pops
up in front. On the left, you have several categories to choose from.
On the right are the options for those categories. The first category
is "Connect". Fill in what you would like for your Nickname and an
alternative nickname in case the primary one is taken/in use when you
connect. "Name" can be anything. It's what gets displayed when someone
does the "/whois" command on you. e-mail can also be anything.

3. Under the "Connect" category is a "Servers" sub category. There,
you may add an entry for AnthroChat. Click the "Add" button. For
"Description", you can type "AnthroChat". For "IRC Server", you can
type "irc.anthrochat.net". For "Ports", you can type "7000". For
"Group", you can type "AnthroChat". Until you register your nickname,
don't worry about putting anything in for the password because you don't
have one yet. Once you get a registered nickname, you can go back in
and set the password. Most of the rest of the Categories, you can mess
with later, if you feel adventurous and so inclined.

4. Double-click on the new "AnthroChat" entry in the list. It'll take
you back to the "Connect" category, and show "Server: AnthroChat:
AnthroChat" somewhere toward the middle of the dialog box. Click "Connect"

5. After connecting, and "mIRC Favorites" dialog box will appear. You
may store favorite channels in there. It has a number of "default" ones
already in the list, but most of those probably do not exist on
AnthroChat. For now, you can just close that box.

6. Inside of mIRC, there is a sub-window and at the top of that sub
window, it says, "Status: YourNickname [+wxi] on AnthroChat
(lion.anthrochat.net:7000) (00:02)". The important part is "Status".
That is your "Status tab/window". When our web site refers to "your
status tab/window", that's what it means. When it says to type things
there, at the very bottom of that window is a separator line. If you
click inside that space between the line and the very bottom of the
window, you get a text cursor for typing things. The first thing you
can type is: /msg nickserv help

7. All IRC commands are preceded by a slash (/). /msg is the "private
message" command. The first argument for the private message command is
the person/bot to whom you would like to send a message. Everything
else is the content of the message that you would like to send. In this
case, you're sending the word "help" to the nickserv bot. It will
respond with its general help system. To get more specific help on each
command that it lists, you can send a message with "help" and the
command name. For instance, when you just send "help", one of
NickServ's commands that it displays says, "INFO Displays information
about a given nickname". If you want more information about that
command, you can type "/msg nickserv help info". It then says, "Syntax:
info nickname [all]". Anything listed in brackets ([]) is optional for
the command. "/msg nickserv info simba" will display information about
my nickname. "/msg nickserv info simba all" will display more
information about it.

8. The commands you are looking for is nickserv's "register" and
"identify" commands. Get more information about those commands the same
way as described in step 7.

9. Once you're registered and identified, you can join "Registered
nickname only" channels. To get a list of channels, use the IRC /list
command.

10. Now that you have a registered nickname, you can go back in and
fill in the password in the mIRC Options -> Servers -> AnthroChat ->
Edit area. This way, you won't have to re-enter your password into
NickServ's identify command every time you connect.

If that's not enough to go on, read through the entire main
AnthroChat web page (again: http://www.anthrochat.net/ ). Within that
page, there are references to other documentation, elsewhere on the
'net, that provide more details. You may also refer to those.
