My name is Matthew Cox and I am attending the Pennsylvania State University studying Crime, Law, and Justice and Sociology.  I have worked recently as a research and teaching assistant for the department of Sociology discussing such topics as deviance, delinquency, and ethnic relations.  As a graduating senior, I am now enrolled in an "English composition for the Social Sciences" course which requires me to complete a full ethnographic study over the following 5 weeks.  I have chosen the Furry fandom as my subject for this study.
	Given that much of the participation in this community occurs over the web, I would like to formally request your permission to use your social networking website MyFursona as a source to aid me in my study of the fandom.  In no way would I breach anonymity nor betray the confidentiality that comes with internet communication.  I am merely interested in how the community interrelates as a whole along with the behaviors, terminology, and activities that go along with that.  The goals of my proposed research are to refute misconceptions and prejudices toward the community which commonly stem from public misunderstanding due to observer distance, and to explore the social subculture involved in such a tight-knit yet often geographically distant group.  Having your website amongst my sources would greatly build my capacity to accomplish these goals.
	I would not require any access beyond that of an average user, and would conduct my fieldwork simply by observing public trend and practice.  Please let me know if this proposal is acceptable.  Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
