The only, official, "public" channels are "#AnthroChat" (the
network's help channel) and #Atrium (The default channel for the web
client). All other channels are owned and operated by the individuals
who created them. That's how IRC works: Join a channel that doesn't
exist yet and you've created it. It's yours. Register it with ChanServ
and keep it, even without occupants. If it remains empty for more than
30 days, it expires and is dropped from Chanserv.

I doubt that was the reason. I know that several of #TheDen's
users (even operators) are smokers.

What you say here is a contradictory statement. It is BECAUSE the
administrators assume no role in moderating what users say or do that
the overall network is "unmoderated" and "uncensored". The "freedom"
is your ability to create and manage your own self & your own channel(s)
as you see fit without the network's administrators enforcing their
ideas of what text can and cannot be transmitted by you or your
channels' users. As I said in my previous e-mail:

If you don't like the way a channel is managed, you are free to
create your own channel and to invite your friends or other like-
minded individuals that you run across.
