Because I guarantee that the Catsden root certificate doesn't come
included with your operating system or IRC client software (as much as
Cheetah would love for it to). Instead of spending $100/year/server to
have a certificate signed by a known authority, we basically sign our
own. This causes your client to not be able to validate it and thus
mark it as "invalid".
That being said, you can install the Catsden root certificate into
your OS or IRC client software, and it will no longer complain. You can
get the Catsden Root Certificate from http://catsden.net/ The methods
by which a root certificate is installed varies by OS and client
software, so you'll need to look up how to do it for yours.
